FAQ: How Did You Get Started?

By far, the thing I am asked the most is "How did you get started with photography?" It's often a long and complicated answer so I thought for my first blog post, I'd address this FAQ.

I guess it really all started with my dad. Even from elementary school, I can remember him with a camera. I have so many photos of my early years and I'm thankful that the passion for collecting memories has been passed to me. In high school, I remember him constantly putting a bug in my ear about taking a photography class or using his camera at family events for practice. Like a typical teenager, I didn't listen.

It wasn't until after I was married and pregnant with our first child that I actually considered photography as even a hobby. I started taking pictures with that little Nikon point and shoot. I sought after anyone I could find. Man, I'm so grateful for those first few clients who bore with me! After a few months, I had my first wedding inquiry. I fought it and was SO nervous about taking on that big of a job. I'm not going to say that I completely rocked it but it wasn't bad! After that, I knew I could be serious about it.

Off and on for the last seven years I have taken jobs from friends and family. I've had my share of weddings and families. I have had the BEST brides on earth. Each and every one has been so calm, cool, and relaxed on their big day. I'm thankful for each one. I've had the honor of photographing the most gorgeous families! It's been my pleasure to watch the babies all grow up. I've had some clients stick around for all seven years and I couldn't be more grateful! What a change it is to see how we've both grown.

It wasn't until almost one year ago that I really considered going full-time. I had a chance a year ago to photograph a set of twin. Two of the most beautiful girls I've ever met! It was after that session that my heart just felt fulfilled. I knew then that eventually, this is what I wanted to do.

Then I had a chance to photograph a maternity session and then the birth of their son. WOW! It completely blew me away! After the birth session, it was settled. At 20-some odd years of age, I finally found what I wanted to do 'when I grew up'. Since then, I've been slowly building up more momentum and more clients. I've been working hard to build a brand around my passion.

What that? My passion is moms and their babies. Dads, you're important too- much more than most people give you credit for. BUT that bond between mamas and babies!! I LOVE it! I love to capture looks that are absolutely consumed with love. Every part of bringing a new life into the world is what I want to capture for you. All of it!

During a maternity session, it's the moment you look down at your belly and connect with the little kick. During an adoption session, it's the connection that every piece of paper and every photo put into your book brings you closer to the sweet child you'll bring home.

During a birth, it's every contraction bringing you closer to your baby.

With a newborn session, it's the moment your eyes meet with a new soul.

Families sessions are filled with the love that you all have for one another. That's my passion. That's why I'm here.
