Greenwood, Indiana Newborn Lifestyle and Studio Session

I love love love (LOVE!) being referred out to your family and friends.  Referrals are how I get to meet some of my best clients.  This sweet family is no exception!  Luckily, they found me just a few days after their sweet little baby was born so there was plenty of time to squeeze in not only a lifestyle session in the comfort of their own home but an in-studio session as well!

Lifestyle can feel awkward at first but, really, the idea in and of itself is fairly simple.  Just do what you normally do!  Hold baby.  Kiss baby.  Cuddle baby.  Kiss baby.  Feed baby.  Change baby.  Shush baby.  Hug baby.  Rock baby.  Kiss baby.  Repeat!  That's about how those first few weeks go with newborns!

This big sister was so so great!  She was a little wary of me at first but LOVED looking through the pictures on the back of the camera.   We read a few pages of a book together and played "Where's Your Nose/Hands/Feet/Ears/Eyes/Etc?"  Nothing makes a toddler laugh like asking them where their nose is.

Anyway, I'll let you get to the good stuff now!

Greenwood, IN | Family Photographer

I've known Brittany since middle school and when I put a call out at the beginning of July looking for families, I was so glad she responded!  Not only had we gone through school together but during my brief (but amazing) stint as an elementary school librarian, I had the pleasure of having her oldest daughter in my classes!

These girls were hilarious that night.  When given just the slightest bit of direction, they made it completely their own!  I'm so happy I had the chance to re-connect and get to know her youngest daughter.

I love my family sessions!

Newborns!  Those sweet squishy cheeks, small moans, yawns, stretches... How can you not love newborns?  And did I mention that sweet smell?  If this little guy doesn't give you just a little bit of baby fever, I don't know what to tell you!

This guy is the proud owner of two adoring parents and three (yep, THREE!) beautiful big sisters!

Indianapolis, IN | Birth Photographer

Remember this mama?  After our gorgeous maternity session, she hired me on for her birth!  I was, of course, thrilled to agree!

Birth photography is my absolute passion.  I. love. it. all.  I'm completely obsessed with birth.  They are my favorite sessions by far!  It's an honor to be invited to the birth of a new life.

I was called at around 11PM on a Wednesday night telling me they were headed to the hospital.  At 12AM she knew she was staying so I headed out.  All through the night she walked, sat on a birthing ball, checked Facebook, and finally around 10AM it was time to deliver her precious baby boy!

I met this gorgeous mama through a model call I put out on Facebook right after I had started in July.  I had never done maternity shots before so this was my first go at it!  I absolutely loved how they turned out!

During our first meeting, I brought three ideas with me for her model session.  I knew as soon as I met with her that I wanted to go with a very natural mother, earthy, boho theme.  Luckily, she agreed!

I love it when you and I can collaborate together!  I gave her my thoughts and a little bit of direction and she styled her own wardrobe!

A private property location provided the perfect backdrop for us.  I hope she is able to treasure these photographs for years to come!

Jon and Jen

I've had the pleasure of knowing Jen since high school.  We were in choir and a Peer group together.  I loved her then and I love her now.  I've seen her blossom from a sweet young girl into the strong, beautiful, vibrant mother and soon-to-be wife she is now.

I'm so excited for their wedding next month!!  I was a nervous wreck during this shoot.  I have never been lucky enough to shoot in an urban setting but I'm so glad I took the chance and did it!  I was wonderfully pleased at how beautiful their images turned out!

FAQ: How Did You Get Started?

By far, the thing I am asked the most is "How did you get started with photography?" It's often a long and complicated answer so I thought for my first blog post, I'd address this FAQ.

I guess it really all started with my dad. Even from elementary school, I can remember him with a camera. I have so many photos of my early years and I'm thankful that the passion for collecting memories has been passed to me. In high school, I remember him constantly putting a bug in my ear about taking a photography class or using his camera at family events for practice. Like a typical teenager, I didn't listen.

It wasn't until after I was married and pregnant with our first child that I actually considered photography as even a hobby. I started taking pictures with that little Nikon point and shoot. I sought after anyone I could find. Man, I'm so grateful for those first few clients who bore with me! After a few months, I had my first wedding inquiry. I fought it and was SO nervous about taking on that big of a job. I'm not going to say that I completely rocked it but it wasn't bad! After that, I knew I could be serious about it.

Off and on for the last seven years I have taken jobs from friends and family. I've had my share of weddings and families. I have had the BEST brides on earth. Each and every one has been so calm, cool, and relaxed on their big day. I'm thankful for each one. I've had the honor of photographing the most gorgeous families! It's been my pleasure to watch the babies all grow up. I've had some clients stick around for all seven years and I couldn't be more grateful! What a change it is to see how we've both grown.

It wasn't until almost one year ago that I really considered going full-time. I had a chance a year ago to photograph a set of twin. Two of the most beautiful girls I've ever met! It was after that session that my heart just felt fulfilled. I knew then that eventually, this is what I wanted to do.

Then I had a chance to photograph a maternity session and then the birth of their son. WOW! It completely blew me away! After the birth session, it was settled. At 20-some odd years of age, I finally found what I wanted to do 'when I grew up'. Since then, I've been slowly building up more momentum and more clients. I've been working hard to build a brand around my passion.

What that? My passion is moms and their babies. Dads, you're important too- much more than most people give you credit for. BUT that bond between mamas and babies!! I LOVE it! I love to capture looks that are absolutely consumed with love. Every part of bringing a new life into the world is what I want to capture for you. All of it!

During a maternity session, it's the moment you look down at your belly and connect with the little kick. During an adoption session, it's the connection that every piece of paper and every photo put into your book brings you closer to the sweet child you'll bring home.

During a birth, it's every contraction bringing you closer to your baby.

With a newborn session, it's the moment your eyes meet with a new soul.

Families sessions are filled with the love that you all have for one another. That's my passion. That's why I'm here.
